CHRISTEE
Christee is gentle, soft-spoken and very curious. When she first arrived in 2007, she was shy and afraid of people. Christee came from a ranch in Canada that culled the urine of pregnant mares as estrogen therapy for women in menopause for products called Premarin and Prempro.
Once scientists linked this type of estrogen therapy with cancer and heart disease in women in the early 2000s, hundreds of PMU (Pregnant Mare Urine) horses were offered for adoption or faced slaughter.
We adopted Christee, with Jodee and Tessa, and now she lives as a free horse and cares for people in a new way. (Warning: PMU products are back on the shelves and being heavily promoted in Latin American and Asia).
Christee arrived pregnant but her beautiful black Warmblood colt, who we name Equistar, died in birth. We are so grateful that she survived.
