CATS

Our acquisition of Flag Ranch here in Paso Robles in October 2021 included the adoption of 25 feral cats who were left behind by the ranch’s previous owner. There was only one option for us: to continue to care for them at the only home they had known.

None were spayed or neutered, but a year and a few litters later we finally brought reproduction to zero. But the memo has gotten around that we are a safe and loving harbor, and so occasionally a new cat will appear, usually a non-neutered male.

They form a playful and colorful colony and show us that cats do indeed benefit from family, and find a way work out their territories and differences. And they naturally help keep our rodent population in balance.

Even our dogs have learned to respect the Almighty Cat.

We are deeply grateful to Chiho Saito, who underwrites their expenses in collaboration with the employee matching program at her company.
